Ok assuming it is songapores's 50th year of independence, I think I'm really fortunate. I'm fortunate because I get to interact with the pioneer generation and I feel like I am part of the history of our young Singapore. 50 years later when singapore turns 100, I'll be 67 and hopefully alive and my brain hasn't degenerated much. Then I will tell my grandchildren, if I have offsprings how my grandfathers and their friends played a part in shifting singapore from a laid back kampong to the modernised, urban city she is today (2064). How 100 years ago, 1964, Lee kUan yew signed the agreement and tell them that I've met lee kUan yew before.
For young singapore, lee kUan yew is like our.....秦始皇.... I have met the 秦始皇of singapore leh!!
I will proudly tell them that their great grand mother which is my mom lived in a kampong and that their great great grandfather built the roads for modern singapore. Omg I belong to history.
I am fortunate to be born in 1997 because it's gonna be an exciting century ahead for me and my fellow generation Q for QTP.
And then I will tell them how singapore had a lot of green land last time and I used to fly kites with my siblings at a large green field and they will gasp and be like " you can fly kites at large green fields?! I thought you could only fly kites at marina barrage"
CSE teacher was appalled by my lack of love for my heritage when I said "why not just remove all the buildings and hutongs yadayada"
I think that I am living in a fast paced society where the living motto is 'out with the old and in with the new' everything has to make way for modernisation and we can only rely on that bit of our memories to remember what we used to have, where we used to play.
The guy in front of me is talking to himself and sweeping his dandruff on me. I am sad. I am sad for the guy. He sold his life to education and probably studied too much tha his grey matter got burnt. May lee kUan eye bless you.
